AAI Policy Statement
Attendees at AAI activities and events are required to comply with the following policies.
Non-Discrimination
The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment at AAI meetings and activities for all attendees/participants regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, career stage, military or veteran status, marital status, disability, or genetic information.
Code of Conduct
In addition to non-discrimination, AAI promotes principles of integrity, civility, diversity, and respect. To that end, AAI attendees/participants must comply with the AAI Code of Conduct. Under the Code of Conduct, prohibited behaviors include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Physical assault (including unwelcome touching or groping)
- Threat of physical harm
- Threat of professional or financial damage or harm
- Intimidation or stalking
- Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning speech or actions
- Verbal or physical abuse of any person attending and/or working on behalf of AAI (including convention center, hotel, AAI, or contract staff)
- Harmful or prejudicial verbal or written comments or visual images related to, among other things, race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, career stage, military or veteran status, disability, or genetic information (including in presentation slides)
- Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images (including in presentation slides)
- Harassing photography or taking identifying photos of someone without that person’s express permission
- Photographing or recording oral presentations, posters (except by presenting authors), scientific, or other sessions (AAI may arrange for official photographs or recordings to be taken at its meetings and events.)
- Disruption of scientific sessions or other events
- Inebriation, smoking, vaping, or use of illegal substances at AAI-sponsored events or in spaces
where those events are taking place - Noncompliance with all other requirements established by AAI for the meeting/event
AAI, in its sole discretion, may remove any attendee/participant, without refund, who has violated the Code of Conduct, and at AAI’s sole discretion, such person may be barred from all further activities at, or associated with, the AAI event. AAI, in its sole discretion, may request the assistance of hotel and/or convention center security and/or police if necessary. AAI, in its sole discretion, may bar violators of the Code of Conduct from any future AAI-sponsored meetings and/or events.
Reporting Misconduct/Safe Space
AAI desires that all attendees/participants at AAI activities/events feel respected and safe. If any person: (i) is being made to feel uncomfortable or threatened, (ii) notices that someone else is being threatened, and/or (iii) witnesses what may be a threat to the meeting or the public, such person should report the situation immediately to AAI on-site staff and/or to on-site security personnel.
Presentations
IMMUNOLOGY2024™ will be held in-person in Chicago, IL. Scientific program speakers and chairs must be present in-person in order to participate. There will be no option for scientific participants to contribute virtually (i.e., via Zoom, prerecorded presentations, etc.).
Poster Presentation
Submission of an abstract to the AAI annual meeting constitutes a commitment by the author to present the author’s data in the format assigned (poster, or podium and poster presentation). Block Symposium podium presenters are also required to present a poster. Failure to present as assigned will result in the withdrawal of the abstract from publication. Authors who cannot be present at their assigned time(s) must formally withdraw their abstract(s) by noon ET on Friday, March 15, 2024. Speakers participating in the President’s Program, as Distinguished Lecturers, in Major Symposia, in a committee-sponsored symposium, in a Special Session, or in a Guest Symposium are not required to submit abstracts nor present a poster.

Photography and Recording
AAI is committed to the respectful sharing of scientific research and data. Attendees/participants are strictly prohibited from photographing and recording (audio or video) scientific sessions. Posters may not be photographed or recorded unless the author has given permission. Violators will be required to delete photographs and/or recordings and, at the sole discretion of AAI, may be removed from the meeting. AAI will arrange for official photographs and recordings to be taken at IMMUNOLOGY2024™. By registering for this meeting, attendees/participants agree to allow AAI to use their photo in AAI publications, including on the AAI website.
Additional Prohibited Behaviors
In addition to the behaviors prohibited at all AAI meetings and events (listed above), attendees/participants at IMMUNOLOGY2024™ are not permitted to
- Enter the meeting area, sessions, or social events without registering or wearing a meeting badge (includes attendees’/participants’ guests)
- Bring unregistered children into the meeting area, rooms, sessions, or social events (non-ambulatory children are permitted in the IMMUNOLOGY2024™ exhibit hall)
- Share or borrow meeting badges
- Attempt to attend an “invitation-only” event without proper proof of invitation
Reporting Misconduct/Safe Space
If an incident is life-threatening or dire, attendees/participants should call the on-site uniformed security personnel (312-791-6060; or 6060 from a Convention Center phone) and/or dial 911. To make a report, attendees/participants should go to the AAI on-site office in the Convention Center located on Level 4, Room W471B. The office is staffed every day throughout the meeting. Meetings and events planned in conjunction with the AAI meeting cannot be scheduled during the official hours of IMMUNOLOGY2024™.
