The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics (MIMG) in The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) is inviting applications for a full-time, open-rank faculty position. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain extramural funding to conduct independent research in the Biology of Infections, such as pathogen biology, microbial pathogenesis, or host immune responses to infections. He/she will also be expected to participate in multi-PI research programs, graduate and medical education, and mentorship. A competitive start-up package and outstanding laboratory space are available, with rank and salary commensurate with experience.
The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine is among the top 50 medical schools in the nation. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative group of 18 MIMG faculty working on mucosal immunology, immune defense, autoimmunity, epigenetics of the immune response, cancer immunology, virology, mycology, parasitology, bacteriology, host-pathogen interactions, and vaccine development. The applicant will have access to numerous advanced core facilities that offer cutting-edge technologies to advance basic and translational research. In addition, MIMG maintains a suite of BSL-3/ABSL-3 laboratories approved for use with Tier-1 select agents. The candidate will benefit from a vibrant academic environment that promotes collaborative interactions with multiple local institutions, including the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, the University of Texas at San Antonio, St. Mary’s University, Trinity University, the University of the Incarnate Word, Texas A&M University, and Our Lady of the Lake University. Multiple NIH T32 training grants are available to support pre-doctoral and post-doctoral MIMG trainees, including the Graduate Research in Immunology T32 and Translational Science TL1 programs.
San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S., with affordable housing/living costs and an excellent public school system. It has a beautiful historic downtown area featuring the Riverwalk, diverse entertainment, and fine restaurants. It is also a gateway to the scenic Texas Hill Country with many recreational options.
Qualifications and application process
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with relevant postdoctoral experience. Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must have a record of achievement and demonstrate the potential to establish a robust externally funded research program. Associate or Full Professor applicants must have an established extramurally funded research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international recognition.
