College/Department Information
The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine “Lynn” Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease, and cancer.
Job Summary
Assist with training and supervision of new students in the lab as needed.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include but not limited to: Experiments – 25
Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis. Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical and/.or radio-chemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, macro- and micro-serological, histologic and cell culture procedures.
Project Planning & Protocols – 25
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
Scientific Literature & Meetings – 15
Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
Articles – 15
Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; Review articles prepared by others.
General Duties – 5
Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work.
Technical – 8
Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
Techniques – 5
Advise principal investigator, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities.
Other Duties – 2
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
